Core Position Descriptions
Northern Beaches Hospital is a level 5 training Hospital, part of the Northern Sydney Local Health District. The Neurology Department supervises general neurology and stroke admissions and serves a busy emergency department. There are a broad range of admissions including complex diagnostic and management issues.
There are 12 attending neurologists and one stroke physician with a broad range of subspecialty interests.
The Advanced Trainee is responsible for management of inpatients, and leading the junior medical team (BPT and two RMOs) as well as attending three clinics per week (neurophysiology, Rapid Access and General Neurology clinics). Clinics are run in the hospital outpatients department as well as co-located private rooms to maximise the breadth of referrals seen.
During a weekly on-site neurophysiology clinic the trainee will learn basic nerve conduction studies and EMG as well as be exposed to, and gain experience in more advanced techniques including nerve and muscle ultrasound.
Evoked potential studies are performed on site.
There are scheduled EEG reading / teaching sessions each week.
