Accreditation of Neurophysiology Training

Accreditation of Neurophysiology Training

Level 1 Training

Level 1 training in EEG and NCS/EMG is part of core neurology training, governed by the RACP, and does not require separate accreditation. The expectations of Level 1 training are included in the Requirements for Training in Clinical Neurophysiology documents below, for reference.

Level 2 and 3 EEG and NCS/EMG Training

Additional accreditation of training is required to be recognised as Level 2 or 3 in EEG and/or NCS/EMG. This includes accreditation of the training site prior to the training and of the trainee after the period of training.

Sites seeking to be accredited to deliver Level 2 or 3 neurophysiology training should refer to Site Accreditation for more information on how to apply.

Please note these requirements have been updated and will apply to all training completed after 31 January 2025.

For trainees completing their training prior to 31 January 2025, the previous standard will apply. Some additional training for pre-2025 trainees may be recommended prior to accreditation if training is deemed insufficient, even where case numbers have been met. When applying applicants should use updated forms below. Retrospective accreditation* of Level 2 or 3 training for existing fellows closes 31 August 2025.

A summary of the changes can be found here.

It is important to note that at least Level 2 accreditation in the relevant discipline is mandatory for all direct teaching staff involved in the neurophysiology training of Level 1 (core) neurology advanced trainees.

All applications for retrospective accreditation must be received by ANZAN EEG Clinical Neurophysiology Committee by 31 August 2025. Overseas trained physicians wishing to seek Level 2 or 3 EEG accreditation may apply anytime within two years of being recognised as a neurologist in Australia or Aotearoa/New Zealand.

  • A letter of recommendation from your clinical neurophysiology supervisors.
  • Your curriculum vitae.
