The Neuromuscular/ Clinical Neurophysiology Fellowship
The Royal North Shore Hospital in North Sydney is in a unique position to offer subspecialty training in neuromuscular disorders and clinical neurophysiology. The Department of Neurology presently boasts 9 adult neurologists and offers a comprehensive specialised care service which includes neurogenetics, neuromuscular, neurophysiology, neuro-otology and motor neuron disease.
This funded position will encompass:
- Clinical neurophysiology training including NCS, EMG, QEMG, SFEMG, magnetic stimulation, EEG, and EPs including intraoperative monitoring. There are 4 neurophysiologists including one with extensive experience in the above techniques and another in the assessment of movement disorder patients for deep brain stimulation.
- Botulinum toxin clinics including the use of EMG guidance, and participation in specialised multidisciplinary spasticity clinics. There are 3 certified botulinum toxin injectors in the department.
- Clinical assessment and coordinated care including exercise physiology of patients with neuromuscular disorders especially mitochondrial disease.
- Participation in neuro-otology clinics and a multidisciplinary motor neuron disease service.
- Participation in clinical research projects in neurogenetics and clinical neurophysiology.
We anticipate that this sought after position of 1-2 years will be ideally suited to the neurology advanced trainee in the elective year or the recently qualified neurologist. There are also international research opportunities in the subsequent years for the interested candidate via staff ties with overseas counterparts in the UK and US.
